Why is Air France putting a bug on your Luggage
Air France loses around €5 million per year just to track down and compensate travellers for their missing bags.
To reduce company loses, and to ensure that travellers will always get their bags safe and sound after their flights, the airline said it plans to use RFID chips or GPS trackers to monitor bags from departure to arrival.
Air France will be implementing the pilot programme by the end of the year to see if the technology is effective. The trackers will be fixed on a few travellers’ checked luggage to test the system. If tests come out successfully, the service will be made available to members of Air France’s customer loyalty programme.
