Anne Curtis bent to belt out in her Opera-inspired Concert
In a nation that boasts of churning out the greatest singers the world has heard, it can be pretty embarrassing to sing out of tune. But not for Anne Curtis, the certified-Annebisyosa of the Philippine music industry as she proves for the second time that even sintunados have a place on stage.
Anne promises her second concert, and her voice, will be bigger as she fearlessly tackles opera songs head-on. She’s confident she can hit and sustain high notes this time as she said she has taken voice lessons to prepare for the May show aptly called Annekapal: Anne Curtis The FORBIDDEN Concert.
‘Sabi nila, yung voice ko pala, bagay raw for opera. So, sabi ko, why not try and see? [Now] I’m having voice lesson for that para ma-sustain ko ang chord. Ganoon ko siya pinaghahandaan.’
The Aussie-Pinay actress definitely knows people aren’t going to her concerts for her voice. She knows she hasn’t been blessed with the greatest singing voice. But she has been blessed with the drive to pursue one of her childhood dreams no matter how bad she is at it: ‘I’ve always loved singing.
‘Simula ng bigyan ako ng stand, microphone, at gitara… yun na. The rest is history. Singing didn’t love me back but, I believe, nag-improve ako kahit paano.’
Anne confessed that the goal of her concert is not to blow people away with an amazing voice. Actually, it’s very simple: to make people laugh. ‘I don’t want people to take me seriously because I just want a fun, fun concert, that when they leave, they have a great time.’
Of course, Anne still gets nervous when performing on stage. But she knows that mistakes will draw more cheers from the crowd. She’s rather more nervous about her greatest fear: not having an audience to watch her perform.
‘Kahit saan, kahit mapa-abroad, yun ang concern ko. Yun ang nasa isip ko palagi — paano kung walang tao.’
Anne doesn’t mind bashers at all nowadays, especially after the surprising success of her first solo concert in 2012. ‘I’ve gone through the worse talaga when it comes to criticisms and intrigues. No matter what you do, someone will always, always have something to say about it.
‘It’s really up to you to make it happen if you really want.’

She’s definitely making it happen for the second time. Regardless of being sintunado, Anne guarantees she will bring the house down with stunning showmanship and a lot of surprises for loyal fans who love her no matter what.
