Another crown for the Philippines
It is another win for the Philippines.
After Mutya Datul and Megan Young won international beauty pageants Miss Supranational and Miss Earth, respectively, earlier this year, the Philippines’ Bea Rose Santiagocompletes the roster of winners by taking home the Miss International crown in last night’s Grand Coronation in Tokyo, Japan.
An early crowd favourite, Bea bested over 60 candidates from all over the world and became the fifth Pinay to win the title since the pageant started in 1960. Previous Filipinas to win Miss International are Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), and Precious Lara Quigaman (2005).
This year’s runner-ups were Miss Netherlands Nathalie den Deker and Miss New Zealand Lorena Hermida.
When Bea was asked during the Q&A portion what will she do if she wins Miss International, the 23-year-old beauty queen answered: “The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope.”
A few hours after the coronation event at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall, Bea said in her twitter that she is still shock from her win.
Meanwhile, local personalities took it to twitter to congratulate the newly-crowned Miss International 2013:
