Another Pinay in Miss Saigon

Singer Rachelle Anne Go has made it to the West End revival of the acclaimed musical “Miss Saigon” next year in London.
Rachelle Anne won the role of GiGi Van Tranh, a tough bar girl that was initially casted as Miss Saigon. GiGi’s character was previously played by another Filipina, Isay Alvarez.
“Good morning!!! I just woke up… i think i’m still dreaming! Totoo na po pala talaga…thank You Lord God. Thank You…” Rachelle Anne tweeted today after the final cast of the musical was announced.
The lead role of Kim will be played by 17-year-old Eva Noblezada from Charlotte North Carolina. Eva was spotted by casting director Tara Rubin in an awards show for high singers in New York.
Lea Salonga who played Kim in the first run of the show in 1989 sent her congratulations to Rachelle Anne in a tweet.
Miss Saigon is set in 1975 during the last days of American occupation of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). The story revolves around Kim, a Vietnamese bar girl, who was abandoned by her lover Chris, an American soldier.
Miss Saigon will return on 3 May at the PrinceEdwardTheatre in London. Next year will also mark the musical’s 25th anniversary.
