Belgium clamps down on fake Marriages
by FFE EU News staff
The Belgian federal government has recently launched an online campaign warning men and women against getting into bogus marriages or co-habitation contracts.
Leaflets, websites and videos have been used to warn young women and men who are led into relationships by foreigners who only intend to marry or cohabitate to acquire residence permits. As of now, a person who has been denied marriage in one municipality due only has to move to another one to try again.
The federal government is planning to start a general database to allow civil servants of different municipalities to get an idea of how to handle the situation.
