Charice: where is she now 1 year after coming Out?
Charice Pempengco blew the world with her powerful voice after guesting in the shows Ellen and Oprah in 2007 and 2009. But another interview on 2 June 2013 in The Buzz rocked the world for entirely a different reason which changed Charice’s image forever.
After coming out as a lesbian, Charice’s life has transformed. How is she faring a year after that fateful interview in The Buzz?
The 22-year-old commemorated her ‘coming out birthday’ in an Instagram post yesterday, showing that she further embraced her new identity and is even encouraging others who are facing the same situation like hers to do the same:
Charice continues to transform to a happier and more fulfilled person as shown in her Instagram account.
Career-wise, there are plenty of Charice fans who have held onto their idol despite her drastic transformation. The most sympathetic of these commented on Charice’s coming out birthday post, saying:
‘Your strength inspires and your music conquers all barriers. Who cares what some people think. You know exactly what you want personally and career-wise and those are what we, real fans, continue to appreciate,’ said @14buena
@eelhay said ‘Because of you @generalcharice the world has changed! Youve open freedom ! I salute you! Thank you.’

Her coming out birthday was also blessed with a sold out concert in Vancouver yesterday. Many Filipino and Canadian fans were thankful for the opportunity to see their idol up close in Vancouver, with many stating their continued support for Charice on Instagram.
Charice also doesn’t run out of big projects. This month, she is slated to perform in a benefit concert for typhoon Yolanda survivors where she will share the stage with Lea Salonga and apl.de.ap. Earlier in the year, she also recorded the soundtrack for the animated film ‘The Swan Princess: A Royal Family Tale’ for Sony Pictures, a project she almost lost when she came out last year.

Sold-out shows in North America have been keeping Charice busy. This proves that people continue to love and support her for her talent despite the backlash she has been receiving since coming out.
Charice is alive and kicking in places where she is most loved and received. But more importantly, one year after embracing her identity, she remains honest and true to herself.
