Davao New Year marked by roaring new world Record
by PH News Staff
New Year’s Eve in Davao City was marked with thunderous merry-making as 7,568 revellers blew their party horns or torotot at one time.
At around 10:47pm, Davao city residents led by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte blew their horns together at the Torotot Festival in Freedom Park, breaking Japan’s record of 6,900 blowers. The festival was held in line with the city’s 12-year-old prohibition on the sale and use of firecrackers, leading to zero-injury rates on Christmas and New Year revelries.
The party horns were all properly documented to make sure they were actually used: records were kept of those who registered and participated in the festival for Guinness Book of World Records officials to check.
