The International Organisation for Standardisation has just given the Department of Health (DOH) a certification on Wednesday. The latest ISO certification is DOH-wide, which led President Aquino to see this as a concrete sign of the government’s positive transformation and better service for Filipinos.
During the conferment ceremony, the president said ‘What does an ISO certification mean to the ordinary Filipino? Simple, this reform will ensure faster, more efficient health services for our people. The stricter standards will improve our processes involving documentation, planning, monitoring and feedback in rendering quality services to our people.’
The DOH’s Quality Management System was given an ISO 9001:2008 Certification back in 2012, but this only covered 17 offices, 2 bureaus and two centres for health development. The latest certification now includes the Food and Drug Administration, 32 offices and bureaus and 14 centres for health development. This makes DOH the first Philippine government agency under the executive to have an ISO 9001:2008 certification.
An ISO 9001:2008 Certification is only granted to organisations that are able:
- to demonstrate consistent use of products and services that meet regulatory requirements and
- to enhance customer satisfaction through continuous improvement of the system
The president added that ‘All of these initiatives are centered on raising the standards of health care to our bosses, the Filipino people. May this achievement inspire you to continue dedicating time and energy to improving your standards of service to our bosses.’ On a final note, he challenged the DOH to continue to set higher goals in the service of the Filipino.
