DSWD assures faster relief operations

Now that roads are passable in areas hit by Yolanda, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman has assured a faster relief operations for the typhoon victims.
The DSWD had set up repacking and storage hubs for relief goods in Ormoc, Guian and Tacloban for faster distribution of goods to affected areas. Secretary Soliman said that they will also do food drops in Eastern and Western coasts of Visayas.

In a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the DSWD Field Office of Region VIII has received a total of 305,805 food packs, worth more than P214M, from other region’s DSWD FOs as of 6 a.m. today.
Here is a breakdown of funds diverted by the DSWD Central Office from DSWD FOs Region V,VII, X, XI, XII and Caraga for DSWD FO Region VIII:
- Caraga – P13,500,000
- Region V – P63,500,000
- Region VII – P88,500
- Region X – P13,500,000
- Region XI – P13,500,000
- Region XII – P13,500,000
Sub-Total – P 206,000,000
- DSWD FO VIII Standby-Funds – P 8,073,084.94
Total Funds for DSWD FO VIII – P 214,073,084.94

To maintain the peace and order, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are also present during the distribution of relief goods. They have also heightened their presence on the streets to prevent looting.
