Free education in University of Makati for Yolanda victims

The government-run University of Makati (UMak) has announced that it is accepting transferees from the affected regions of typhoon Yolanda, free of charge.
The tuition fee of P3, 000 per semester collected by the university for non-Makati residents (P1, 000 for Makati residents) will be scrapped for the “emergency transferees.” The affected students will also be admitted even if they do not have sufficient transfer credentials, given that majority of schools and homes were damaged by the typhoon.
“We want to help displaced college students resume their normal school activities as soon as possible to enable them to recover faster from their traumatic experience. Many of them may already be here in Metro Manila living with relatives, so we would like to offer them the chance to enroll at UMak now,” Makati City Mayor Erwin Binay said.
