Germany’s Merkel back in public eye after Accident
by FFE EU News Staff
German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared radiant during the feast of the Epiphany presentation held in her office on Tuesday despite walking with crutches.
The chancellor welcomed around 100 children from all over the country who sang carols and dressed as the Three Wise Men. She said ‘I’m not so good at standing and have to lie down a lot.’
Merkel suffered from partial pelvis fracture over the Christmas holiday in a cross-country skiing accident in Switzerland. Government spokesman Steffen Seibert earlier reported that the chancellor fell while at low speed. A three-week bed rest meant she was forced to cancel her appointments, including a planned visit to Poland and a reception for the prime minister of Luxembourg.
Seibert added that the chancellor will be working from home while she recuperates. Despite the injury, however, Merkel still plans to preside over the first meeting of her grand coalition this Wednesday.
