Google Glass Assessed by Doctors in The Netherlands
The Radboud University Teaching Hospital in Nijmegen, the Netherlands is leading Europe in conducting tests to assess the potential applications of Google Glass for healthcare. Initial feedback on its use for student observation during surgery reveals hitches, but hospital staff is positive other applications can prove useful.
The Google glass will be released by the end of 2013
An experiment on the use of the computerised eyewear during a jaw operation by a surgeon showed that while the quality was pleasing, the images were jumpy and lights in the operating theatre affected the impact of the images. The aim of the experiment was to evaluate if the eyewear gave added value for students compared to traditional over-the-shoulder camera observation. Meanwhile, doctors are also studying its benefits as a way to observe patients from a distance.
The hospital still plans to research other applications of the eyewear in health service.
