While some local celebrities auction their personal items to help with the victims of typhoon Yolanda, Lucy Torres Gomez has a different way of extending her help to the affected families.
In a series of photos posted on Facebook by her husband, Richard Gomez, Lucy is seen helping foreign forces in transporting a sack of rice to a waiting helicopter.
“I didn’t know she could carry that weight!” said Richard.
Lucy has not only been carrying relief goods. As the Representative of the 4th District of Leyte, she ensured that OrmocCity, and the rest of her district that was heavily affected by Yolanda almost two weeks ago, is given adequate relief aid.
Earlier this week, the 38-year-old congresswoman accused Ormoc City Mayor Edward Codilla for his alleged unfair distribution of relief goods.
Lucy claimed that Codilla, who is a member of an opposing political party, only distributes relief goods to his supporters.
Mayor Codilla however refutes that accusation in a television interview and added that his enemies in politics are very much into ‘pogi points’ (media mileage).Adding that they have pogi (the looks) while he doesn’t have pogi but he’s got points.
The congresswoman also rejected the suggestion of Mayor Codilla’s wife to let Ormoc residents wear police t-shirts to prevent crime in the city.
“I really don’t see the wisdom of doing that because it is legitimizing… what if it falls in the wrong hands?… Let’s be very careful about who we entrust our security to,” she said.
