Lea Salonga’s Advice To Miss Saigon Hopefuls:
Lea Salonga sums her advice with ‘whatever happens, happens’
MANILA, Philippines – Lea Salonga, the original Kim in ‘Miss Saigon,’ has a few tips for those who want to audition for the revival of the hit musical slated next year in UK.
“Enjoy yourself, try not to get too nervous, stay on pitch” she said in an interview aired on 24 Oras Oct. 19.
The Philippine auditions will be held from Nov. 19 to 27. It is said that the Saigon producers are looking to cast as many Filipino actors as they can.
“[It] makes me incredibly, incredibly happy that they [the producers] are coming back,” Lea said.
Singer Jamie Rivera, who also played Kim, is as jubilant that the producers are holding special auditions here.
“Hanga sila kaya hindi na nga sila lumilibot sa ibang lugar. Pag sinabing Miss Saigon, dito na agad so dapat mabigyan, mapatunayan natin sa kanila na oo naman, dito lang kayo, wag na kayo lumayo. We have all the talents we could supply you with all the talents because Filipinos are really talented,” Jamie said.
Even Jhong Hilario, who was part of the Miss Saigon ensemble in 2001, couldn’t hide his excitement over the possibility of more Filipino actors and singers making it to the musical.
“Sobrang nakaka-flatter, sobrang wow talaga,” he said.
Many high profile celebs are already aiming for a spot in Miss Saigon. Among these are Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Karylle and Julie Ann San Jose.
“I’m here till end of November which is when audition is supposed to be around so we’ll see,” said Anna Maria, who opened for the Jonas Brothers at the SM MOA Arena a few hours ago.
Julie Ann said she has been praying for the strength to decide whether she’ll try out for the auditions or not.
In the end, Lea tells aspirants that ‘whatever happens, happens.’
