Love downloading music? Think Again!
Music lovers who constantly turn to filesharing or torrent sites to download music for free in the UK may soon find warning letters in their mail starting 2015.
Internet providers and stakeholders in the entertainment industry are currently finalising drafts for the Voluntary Copyright Alert Programme (VCAP) that will allow illegal online downloading activities to be monitored by copyright owners. The VCAP was made as a way to boost anti-internet piracy measures in the UK.
The warning letters are designed to educate internet users who are found downloading music and other copyrighted materials in free filesharing sites. According to reports, users will only be given a maximum of four letters. However, there are no details yet on the steps to be taken by authorities after the warning letters are sent.
VCAP is set to be signed this year.
