Manny Pacquiao: Triumph is the ‘symbol of the comeback’ of the victims of Yolanda
Hours before the fight, viewing venues were already packed by the survivors, hopeful and confident that The Filipino Champ will triumph. When the main event started, Tacloban residents filled the venues with cheer every time Manny scored a punch against Rios.
Manny’s victory served as a morale booster for the victims that lost their loved ones and homes from the battering of typhoon Yolanda that claimed at least 5,000 lives (and still counting) and left millions homeless.
“Manny’s victory in this fight serves as a source of strength and inspiration for the entire nation, after Typhoon Yolanda devastated a large part of the Visayan region,” said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
“It is our hope that the principle that guides him in each fight does not change: that every punch he throws, is a punch for the honor of our people,” Lacierda added.
Manny said he will donate part of his earnings for the victims’ rehabilitation.
