Statistics Norway released a report saying women in parts of western Oslo live longer than women in other parts of the world.
Oslo’s elder women live an average lifespan of 86 years, at par with Japan which is the titleholder for life expectancy for women.
According to the agency, women who live in the Vestre Aker district have the longest lifespan with 86 years. Women from Ullern come second at 85.1 years.
90-year-old Smestad local Marta Fjeld shed light as to why the longevity of women in Oslo is improving: ‘It’s because we love to go hiking, because we cannot stand smoking and because we surround ourselves with friends, often younger ones, and are sociable.’
As per last year, the average lifespan of Norwegian women is 83.4 years while 79.4 years for Norwegian men.
