Mutya Johanna Datul from Isabela province, Philippines bagged the crown in Miss Supranational 2013 on Monday.
Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. said Mutya was radiant and showed the intelligence, grace and confidence of a Filipina in the pageant. The group said in a statement “She has brought immense honor to the Philippines and we are looking forward to a rousing welcome for our very first Miss Supranational.”
Mutya, 21, was also named Miss Personality and was among the top 10 of the talent competition in the event hosted by Minsk, Belarus.
Mexico was first runner up while Turkey’s representative followed. Indonesia and US Virgin Islands landed 3rd and 4th place respectively. Last year, Elaine Kay Moll of the Philippines won third runner up during the coronation night in Warsaw, Poland.
Upon arriving home, Mutya confessed it was her first time abroad. She almost missed her connecting flight to Moscow en route to Belarus. She also had to ask strangers instructions on how to find her gate on her flight back to Manila.
She also explained that she missed her connecting flight in Hong Kong back to the Philippines — the reason why her press conference was delayed.
“People from Binibining Pilipinas advised me not be afraid to ask questions. So that’s what I did, I asked a lot of questions to a lot of people,” said the five-foot-eight beauty.
Fellow Bb. Pilipinas winners also praised Mutya for winning the crown. 2013 Miss Universe Philippines Ariella Arida said “We all knew from the very beginning that you would make us proud. And we are proud of the woman you have become. You are the nicest person I know, very humble.”
2013 Bb. Pilipinas-International Bea Rose Santiago also said she and the other 2013 titleholders monitored updates from the pageant to follow their “baby sister’s” fight for the title.
Mutya brought home the country’s first international beauty title for the year. Cindy Miranda, 2013 Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism, is next in line and is set to leave for the 2013 Miss Tourism Queen International pageant in China this month.
