PH gears up for barangay elections

Today officially marks the beginning of the election period for the October 28 barangay elections. With this, election officials have called on the public to be aware of the restrictions and prohibited acts outlined in the Omnibus Election Code.
Filing of candidacy will be from 15 to 17 October while campaign period starts on 18 to 26 October.

During the gun ban only regular members of the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other Comelec-authorised government enforcement agencies may possess firearms as long as they are in active duty. The ban took full effect Friday midnight and will be enforced until 28 November.
Cebu provincial election officer Ferdinand Gujilde said “At the onset of the election period, prohibited acts will also take effect including the gun ban, issuance of appointments, promotions, creation of new positions, salary increases in government offices as well as raising funds.”
Other prohibited acts include:
alteration or establishment of a precinct
illegal release of prisoners
organising strikes or similar forces
holding of performances to raise funds for an election campaign or to support a candidate, including dances, lotteries, cockfights, games, boxing bouts, bingo, beauty contests, entertainments, cinematographic, theatrical and similar performances
transfer or detail of any officer or employee in the civil service including public school teachers
suspension of any elected provincial, city, municipal or barangay officer except upon prior approval of the Comelec
construction and maintenance of roads and bridges and provincial, city, municipality or barangay-funded projects
