In connection with its latest campaign to catch companies not paying the right taxes
two government agencies have released the list of top car companies in the Philippines who have sold the highest number of cars in 2012.
The Department of Finance (DOF) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) revealed that car companies Toyota, Lexus and Mitsubishi sold the most car units last year. Toyota and Lexus collectively sold a total of 65, 396 units in the past year while Mitsubishi sold 34,915 units.
The three brands also topped the list of car companies with the highest taxes to pay for 2012. This prompts the ad to ask, “Do you think they have been paying the right taxes?”
The ad is only one of the many released weekly by BIR and DOF and is part of the Tax Watch campaign.
“The goal of this campaign is to increase transparency on tax payments and to encourage people to be conscientious in paying the right taxes,” according to BIR.
Previous ads released by the two government agencies include Top restaurants taxpayers in Manila, Registered Pawnshops in the Philippines and Registered Taxpayers vs. Actual Tax Filers in Cebu and Davao.
The agencies also encourage citizens to send anonymous tips to help with the campaign.
