Azkals has been gaining in prominence ever since getting through the semis of the AFC Challenge Cup. FIFA raised the team’s ranking to 137 last October after winning against Pakistan in the Peace Cup 3-1. It improved six places to finish 127th in FIFA’s final tally for 2013.
The Philippines remains the top football team in the Southeast Asian region. Myanmar follows closely at rank 130 after jumping 10 spots, followed by Vietnam at rank 144 and Thailand at 146.
