20 April 2013 – For the first time ever, the Philippines is participating in LATO 2013 – one of Poland’s biggest tourism and leisure fairs – which runs from April 19 to 21 in the capital city of Warsaw.
“Lato” is the Polish word for “summer” and the target market of LATO 2013 are the Polish travelers who, as early as April, begin to make plans for their winter vacation. The Philippines is the only Asian country which is participating in the fair which is now on its 18th year run.
The Philippine Embassy in Poland had the promotion materials provided by the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) translated into Polish for distribution in the tourism and leisure fair.
A few days earlier, the Philippine Embassy issued an open letter to the Filipino community here enjoining each and everyone of them to be a Tourism Ambassador for the Philippines by inviting their Polish friends to visit the Philippine booth in LATO 2013.
Qatar Airways and the Emirates, which are now flying from Manila to Warsaw and back, via Doha and Dubai, have made the Philippines an accessible tourist destination for tourists from Poland.
Poland’s economy has also remained resilient despite the crisis weighing down its neighboring eurozone countries and Polish travelers are looking for alternative destinations for their winter holidays.
The Philippines’ participation in LATO 2013 is a result of the combined efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), and the DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations (OUIER).
