PHL Ambassador Presents Credentials to King of Sweden
19 April 2013 – Oslo-based Philippine Ambassador Bayani S. Mercado presented his letters of credence as non-resident ambassador to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden last April 12.
During their private conversation after the ceremonies, His Majesty noted the successful Swedish trade mission to the Philippines last February and said that despite the absence of embassies in their respective capitals he is confident that relations between Sweden and the Philippines will continue to prosper. He also noted that a good number of Swedish companies (ABB, Astra Zineza, Electrolux, Ericsson, Atlas Copco, Terapak, Volvo) have presence in the Philippines for a long time.
Ambassador Mercado thanked His Majesty for the hospitality and opportunities extended by his people to the more than 15,000 Filipinos living and working in his Kingdom. He also informed the King that his mission in Sweden is to look for more opportunities for Philippine business and tourism.
His Majesty and Ambassador Mercado also exchanged views on environment and development issues, the Eurozone crisis, Stockholm’s efficient high speed train system from the airport to the city, the Ambassador’s visit early that week to Symbiocity (Hammarby Sjöstad) and the Stockholm Royal Seaport which is being transformed into an urban development project showcasing the latest in clean energy and environment technology.
The private meeting ended with His Majesty expressing the hope that, although he is based in Oslo, Ambassador Mercado will regularly visit Stockholm and the other major cities of Sweden which have a lot to offer in terms of technology and business.
The high audience with His Majesty was followed by the traditional reception at the World Trade Center with Swedish Foreign Ministry officials and businessmen as guests.
The Philippine embassy in Oslo covers all the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
