Please, thanks and sorry. These are the three key ingredients to a strong and lasting married life, said Pope Francis. Friday’s special audience at St Peter’s Square saw the pope giving advice to couples on Valentine’s Day.
Yesterday’s audience was a meeting of some 10,000 engaged couples at the Vatican. They were invited especially to hear the pope’s Valentine’s address. In the address, the pope said that there was no such thing as a perfect family, husband or wife. He even quipped that there was no ‘perfect mother-in-law.’
The pope also told the couples that courtesy, gratitude and repentance are the recipes for a successful married life and stressed that the couples should not be afraid of making lasting choices.
This Valentine’s address was tweeted by the pope for the benefit of those who were not in the Vatican to hear it:
Pope Francis is known to hand out love advice whenever he meets young couples. He is expected to tackle on the issue of the Church offering marriage counseling to couples in a major Vatican gathering this October.
