Public reacts to actor Mat Ranillo’s involvement in pork Scam
Actor Mat Ranillo III has been thrust in the spotlight as he was implicated by whistleblower Benhur Luy and potential state witness Ruby Tuason in the pork barrel scam involving Janet Lim-Napoles and lawmakers.
Luy said in a statement that Ranillo received commissions from Napoles during her transactions with Senator Jinggoy Estrada. Tuason backed up Luy’s statement and said that it was Ranillo who delivered Estrada’s kickback of Php11.9 million to socialite Justa Tantoco’s house in Dasmarinas Village, Makati City.
In 2006, Napoles wanted to stop giving Ranillo commissions as she wanted to transact directly with Estrada’s secretary, Pauline Labayen.
Luy’s statement prompted the Senate blue ribbon committee to summon Ranillo and three others.
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima said on Wednesday, 12 February, that Ranillo is already being investigated by the agency as he was part of Tuason’s sworn statement on the pork barrel scam.
Ranillo was a famous actor in the 70’s and was paired with stars such as Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos and Lorna Tolentino. He is known for his portrayal of Jesus in the annual Lenten stage production ‘Kristo.’ His involvement in the pork barrel scam came as a shock to many.
‘Mat Ranillo naman ngayon. Grabe lang ang network,’ said netizen Ada Ligueran on Twitter.
‘Showbiz angle seals it,’ tweeted former Bayan Muna representative Teddy Casino.
‘Well, this is quite a comeback for Mat Ranillo. #PDAFscam,’ tweeted actress Maxene Magalona.
Having been inactive in showbiz for years, veteran news anchor Julius Babao asks the important question.
‘Where in the world is Matt Ranillo? #PDAFScam #porkprobe,‘ Babao tweeted.
