QC cops told to carry cross for being Late
Holy Week is about recognising one’s mistakes and asking for forgiveness — and Quezon City (QC) police has just found the perfect time to turn creative and teach delinquent cops among their ranks a lesson.
Around 50 policemen from 12 QC stations carried 30 kilogramme crosses as they made their way through 14 Stations of the Cross in the Quezon Memorial Circle. QC Police Director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano led the procession of cops along with Reverend Father Alexander Pardo and members of the Jail management and Fire bureau.
Some of the policemen were facing administrative charges for minor offences or demerits like arriving late or being absent from formations.
The director said that he joined the activity as part of his annual sacrifice for Holy Week and that he implemented the same penance to delinquent cops based on the belief that those who admit their guilt deserve forgiveness.
The erring cops, including their chief, carried their crosses all throughout the procession. Albano said this was a way to help the cops be ‘spiritually enlightened and hopefully mend their ways.’
