Remembering Rudy Fernandez
Despite losing one of Philippine cinema’s iconic action stars 6 years ago, family, showbiz friends and fans of Rudy ‘Daboy’ Fernandez did not fail to remember it was his 62nd birthday yesterday.
His widow actress Lorna Tolentino was one of the first to post her online greeting. She also retweeted and thanked everyone who sent their birthday greetings to Rudy via Instagram and Twitter:
“3-3-14 Happy Birthday Babe! ❤”

Rudy passed away 7 June 2008 after months of battling periampullary cancer (cancer in the ampulla of Vater). He came from a family of actors (he is cousins with the Padilla clan) and has earned a reputation as an action star from the 1980s to 90s.
Rudy has won two FAMAS Best Actor awards for his action films ‘Batuigas…Pasukuin si Waway’ (1984), ‘Operation: Get Victor Corpuz, The Rebel Soldier’ (1988) and one FAP Best Actor for ‘Batuigas…’ He has also received FAMAS Fernando Poe Junior Memorial Award (2007) and Philippine Movie Press Club Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award (2008).
He has three sons: Mark Anthony Fernandez with Alma Moreno and Raphael and Renz with Lorna Tolentino.
Rap and Renz are dear fans of their father and they constantly post rare posters and photos of their famous dad in their Instagram accounts:
