Showbiz beauties who played Dyesebel through the Years
Anne Curtis is the Philippine’s latest mythical mermaid Dyesebel, and three photos showcasing Anne’s look has been making the rounds lately:
The teaser shots are a run-up to ABS-CBN’s latest offering ‘Dyesebel,’ which premiers today. Aside from Anne, the latest fantasy-drama will star Gerald Anderson as Fredo and Sam Milby as Liro, the men who fall in love with Dyesebel. Other sterling names who are joining the cast are Dawn Zulueta, Eula Valdez, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Albert Martinez and Gabby Concepcion.
As Dyesebel prepares to make waves on local and international TV, a former Dyesebel star has revived one of the mermaid’s past re-incarnations:
Richard Gomez said ‘It’s a little early for Throwback Thursday or Flashback Fridays but since everyone is talking about Dyesebel these days, might as well join the trend with this 1990 poster of Alice Dixson’s Dyesebel (and myself as Edward).’
Alice Dixson’s Dyesebel is credited to have popularised the orange-coloured fish tail. This 1990 movie also starred Carmina Villaroel as the teen Dyesebel, Judy Ann Santos as Iday and Goma as Edward, Dyesebel’s lover.

Another former Dyesebel star was caught in the net of this news. Marian Rivera, who played the mythical character in a 2008 series under GMA Network, said she was happy the role went to someone who was bagay for it.
Marian said ‘Si Anne, mabait siyang kaibigan.
Dahil Anne is very beautiful, napaka-lovable ni Anne, at bagay siya bilang Dyesebel.’
Marian has no cause to be jealous of passing on the title of Dyesebel, because the comic book mermaid has had a long history of portrayals in Philippine TV which include some of the most endearing and memorable actresses in the industry:
Edna Luna, the original Dyesebel (1953)
Vilma Santos in 1973’s ‘Dyesebel at Ang Mahiwagang Kabibe’
Alma Moreno in 1978’s ‘Sisid, Dyesebel, Sisid’
Charlene Gonzales in the 1996 film
