SM Megamall expansion turns it to biggest Philippine Mall
by FFE PH News Staff
The Philippines’ most popular mall chain SM Supermalls will be surpassing another record as it expands SM Megamall in Mandaluyong by another 150,000 square metres, making it the biggest mall in the country.
The expansion is covered by the mall’s latest wing called Mega D, which will house the Fashion Hall. Fashion Hall is set to open by July or August, and will house, among other brands, Swedish fashion retail H&M. Vice president for SM Supermalls Premier Division Steven Tan said the soon-to-open H&M outlet in Megamall will be the biggest retail store in the country, beating SM’s own department stores and supermarkets.
H&M is also set to open in SM Makati this year while branches in Mall of Asia (MOA) and The Block in SM North EDSA will open next year. Tan has yet to confirm if H&M celebrity endorser and British football star David Beckham will be at the opening of H&M’s flagship store in Megamall.
Ninety percent of the Fashion Hall will house global retailers while local brands will take over the main mall. Just some of the brands to look out for in the new wing include:
- Japan’s Uniqlo
- Spain’s Zara, Pull & Bear and Uno de 50
- Denmark’s Vero Moda
- London’s Savile Row and Burton
- French shoe brand Nao de Brasil
- America’s Joe’s Jean’s, Philosophy and Aeropostale
- Havaianas
- Guess
- Topshop
Tan said ‘I think the world is getting smaller, a lot of Filipinos are travelling and a lot of them are demanding (new brands).’
Aside from the stores, the new wing will also house an IMAX Theater, Director’s Club Theater, a computerised 14-lane bowling centre and an Olympic sized ice-skating rink.
