By FFE EU News staff
Pizza is a classic Italian dish that is accepted worldwide. Every country has its own version of it, but there is no comparison to the goodness of mozzarella and tomato sauce. Currently, everyone is talking about this dish as the Bonaventure University has studied its effects on a person’s mental condition, as compared to other comfort foods – by just drawing it!
The study had 61 participants, each was asked to measure moods when asked to draw different kinds of food. The study showed a staggering result. Pizza was at the top of the list. In fact, the artists who drew a pizza has an improved mood by 28 percent, higher than the cupcakes of 27 percent. This is followed by sweet strawberries at 22 percent.
The participants were all students, the majority of which were women (66%). They were divided into four groups and were given colored pencils to draw. The scientists used a research method to determine the level of mood and the changes before, during and after the drawing. The students also rated their mood and hunger as related to the experience of drawing. All of them had an empty stomach while drawing the foods given.
One group drew a high-sugar cupcake, while the other group drew pizza. The third showed images of strawberry and the last group, peppers. As the levels of moods were measured, it was found out that the group who drew pizza had the highest level of good mood after drawing the image. The study was published in the Journal of Behavioural and Brain Science.
All comfort foods have a way of lifting up one’s mood. However, this study shows that by just drawing an image of food, one’s state of mind can dramatically improve.
