STYLECHECK: Autumn/Winter 2012-13
The cool breeze is filling the air again. This means that it’s time to hide the swimsuits and shorts. Don’t expect the typical orange and brown hues for this season.
As seen in the A/W collections during the London, Paris and Milan Fashion Week, an eclectic mix of colours and trends didn’t just walk the runway; they will be walking on the streets of fashionable Europe as well. Here is a summary of the season’s colours and latest trends to inspire your inner style and wardrobe.
Army Green. Seen in the collections of UK top fashion brands like McQ for Alexander McQueen, Peter Jensen, Margaret Howell and Stockholm’s very own Acne, military green is making a comeback this A/W 2012-13.
White. White dresses and accessories with some metallic accents, like Yves Saint Laurens contemporary goddess gown, are trendy this autumn.
Black. In absolute contrast to white, this season is taking a play on dark romance, with black pieces such as Gucci’s black wool cape
Electric Blue. From gowns to accessories, electric blue is one of the most popular colours this autumn as touted by Spanish brands Balenciaga and Blanco.
Purple Shades. Lilacs, lavenders, and plum hues paired with black details or left as soft pastels, are also popular this season. As seen on Bottega Veneta’s runway collection, a purple ensemble is paired with black leather gloves – another popular another trend this season.
Red. Brands like House of Holland and Antonio Berardi are making sure that red hues are the hottest colours to pop this autumn.
Puffer Jackets. Burberry and Peter Pilotto are among the designers sporting puffer jackets this season. These quilted, padded jackets aren’t just practical for winter, they’re also incredibly stylish.
Leather. This season, not only are leather accessories back, but leather trousers and dresses are dominating Reem Acra and Pringles of Scotland’s runways.
Velvet. Burberry and Peter Pilotto are a couple of the designers that showcased velvet apparel. This season, velvet nails are trendy too.
Embellishments. Make winter a sparkling event with embellished accessories and dresses, much like Oscar de la Renta’s bejeweled dress
60′s MOD. Autumn/Winter 2012-13 is also happily reviving that period in time when pop art, the Beatles, and incredible fashion were born. Hip brand Dsquared2 displays chic Mod styles in their collection while using the trendiest colours of the season: purple, red, and black.
