Summer 2014 Make-up Trends

You’ll be surprised to know what the latest make-up trend is for this summer. Although the tanned look and blue eyes are all present to welcome the summer sun, unusual shades like greys and dusty greens are also making a bold statement.

Here are some looks you should try this summer:

Dark and muted

In a surprising departure from the norm, unseasonably moody shades are in this summer. Dusty green-greys, muted purples and other smokey hues are taking over eye shadows, mascaras and lipsticks.

Vogue recommends using Chanel’s Vert Gris mascara, Burberry’s semi-sheer The Lip Mist and Nars Duo Eyeshadow among others to achieve a dramatic yet sophisticated look:

The muted colours are rich and deep, giving women a cool even smokey look. It’s quite unusual for summer but still flattering, light and mysterious:

Appear more sun-kissed this summer with tan and bronze blushes. To capture and emit the golden glow of the sun, warm blushes are also recommended.

Lancome offers their French Riviera Beauty collection to create a magnificent and effortless glow:

To get golden cheeks, Cosmopolitan UK recommends Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Pinched:

Aquatic eyes

Bright blue eye make-up that reminds us of the crystalline sea is once again in season. However, instead of just lining them around the eyes, try variations like transparent washes or bold eye liner on the waterline.

Some products to try are Kiko Eyeshadow in Cerulean and Dark Sea Green and Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in Blue Soire:

Cosmopolitan UK also recommends Maybelline Master Kajal Kohl Liner in Lapis Blue

Here’s an ironic make-up twist: little to no make-up is trending among designers like Alexander Wang this summer. A warning: this trend is only for the confident as it would entail having well-conditioned skin.

The nude look can be embellished with soft palettes like peach pink and pearly finishes. Vogue recommends Summer Fling lipstick by Tom Ford, Bobbi Brown’s Illuminating Bronzer in Antigua and Yves Saint Laurent’s Gloss Volupte in Rose Orfevre:
