Is there truth behind Raymart’s abuse Charge?
Mired at the centre of controversy versus her house helpers and sisters, Claudine Barretto finds a silver lining through a court resolution versus her estranged husband Raymart Santiago.
Early this week, Claudine’s counsel attorney Ferdinand Topacio told Philippine Entertainment Portal that Raymart is now facing two counts of physical abuse under RA 9262 or Violence Against Women and Children. The resolution came from the Marikina City Prosecutor’s Office, which found ‘probable cause’ supporting Claudine’s fight against Raymart.
This piece of news is timely for Claudine, who has lately been ganged up on by the people formerly close to her. Claudine is receiving flak from her previous house helpers and aides over various robbery cases, her sisters Marjorie and Gretchen for libel cases and Raymart for drug abuse allegations.
Social media and the public have also been unkind to her after claims of her posting anonymous and spiteful comments on her sisters’ social media accounts and rumours of mental conditions.
Raymart’s counsels said there is no truth to the charges and that they are prepared to file a motion for reconsideration. However, if evidence is enough to prove that Raymart indeed violated RA 9262, then he could face imprisonment and bail amounting up to Php300,000. He would also undergo psychological counselling and treatment.
Claudine Barretto originally filed the physical abuse charges on 29 August last year. Claudine then told media ‘Hindi lang pambubugbog ang pinagdaanan ko. Pati mental torturing.’ Aside from physical, mental and economic abuse, the actress also accused Raymart of marital rape.
In response, Raymart’s camp said they were ready to dispute all of Claudine’s allegations and that ‘[we have] strong and solid evidence to prove his defenses.’
