UP Concert Chorus Conducts Series of Concerts in Milan and Northern Italy
In celebration of their 50th founding anniversary, the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC) visited Milan and other parts of Northern Italy from September 30 to October 04 for a series of concerts.
The Choir came from a successful competition at the Fourth Harald Andersen Chamber Choir Competition in Helsinki, Finland where they made it as finalist, making them the first and only Asian choir to make it to the finals.
The Philippine Consulate General in Milan, in cooperation with the Filipino Communities and parishes of Parrocchia Immacolata Concezione and Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore, organized a whole day of performances for UPCC on September 30.
The day’s activities started in the morning at the Chiesa Immacolata
Concezione at Piazza Frattini where the choir sang at the Italian mass and at the Filipino mass, capped by a special one-hour concert in the afternoon as special guests of the Italian community on the feast of their parish. Chiesa Immacolata Concezione’s Filipino chaplain is Father Rodolfo Maramba.
Immediately after the concert in Frattini, the choir proceeded to Basilica di San Lorenzo to sing at the afternoon Filipino mass celebrated by Father Emil Santos. The choir also held a 15-minute show after the mass, which brought pride and happiness to the parishioners.
UPCC’s performances featured a diverse repertoire of religious songs, classic choral works, traditional Filipino folk songs, original Pilipino music (OPM) and pop and broadway song numbers.
Philippine Consul General to Milan Lourdes S. Tabamo also hosted a luncheon in honor of the group at the Frattini grounds. She thanked UPCC for showcasing world-class talent and complimented the members for being exceptional cultural ambassadors for the country.
