Vhong’s trial reveals who his real friends are
Vhong Navarro has at last reclaimed his footing in the showbiz industry after struggling with trauma for months following the mauling incident with Deniece Cornejo and Cedric Lee last January.
In an interview with Buzz ng Bayan, Vhong revealed that there were two valuable lessons the trial has taught him: to know who his real friends are and to give them the love they deserve.
Vhong said that the physical and psychological suffering he received from the group of Lee led him to build stronger relationships with his family and friends: ‘Mas nadagdagan yung pagmamahal nila sa akin ngayon, yung suporta na kinakailangan ko until now.’
The actor-host said that the trial helped reveal to him who his true friends are because they were the ones who did not leave him ‘until the end.
‘Doon mo malalaman ang isang kaibigan. Dapat nandiyan ‘yan sa hirap at ginhawa. Hindi naman kailangan hingin sa kanila yun.’
Even as the trial proved to him that the saying ‘hard times will always reveal true friends’ is spot-on, Vhong confessed that the experience has forced him to undergo a huge lifestyle change. He admitted that there may be some things that will not be the same although ‘Hangga’t maaari, gusto kong ibalik ang dati.’
‘Ngayon, medyo hirap akong ibalik ang pagtitiwala.’
However, Vhong now also believes that courage is not something that only the physically powerful wield. It is also a weapon to use to fight back ‘sa ibang paraan.’
The DOJ earlier junked Cornejo’s rape charge and pursued action against her and Lee’s group. At present, Cornejo, Lee and his group are facing arrest warrants and could be detained by police any time.
Although they can post bail for some of the offences, they will still be kept held for the charge of serious illegal detention, a non-bailable offence. The DOJ has also said that the group cannot leave the country without permission from the court.
The tides are finally turning for Vhong. But although he has been vindicated by the court against Cornejo, Vhong is doubly grateful that his relationship with girlfriend Tanya is better than ever: ‘Ang sarap na ng samahan namin mas lalo.
‘Parang sa ngayon nga, siya na ang masasabi kong girlfriend ko, lahat na pinag-uusapan namin.’
Vhong still faces two rape charges from Roxanne Cabanero at Margarita Fajardo. However, his confidence in his friends and loved ones is proof that he now has the strength to face them with a greater determination.
